Boost Your SEO in 15 Minutes: 3 Simple AI Tools for Better Rankings

Search engine optimization (SEO) has always been a pricey and time-consuming endeavor. Bootstrapped start-ups and other SMBs may not have the staff or money to invest in high-quality content, which has traditionally put them at a disadvantage in search engine rankings.

AI has helped democratize many aspects of life, from investing to job applications. And it’s doing the same for SMBs with small marketing budgets.

For those content writers concerned about their job security, keep in mind that many small businesses can’t afford to hire skilled writers. That’s where AI comes in. These businesses wouldn’t be hiring human writers anyway; they’d be juggling content creation alongside a million other tasks as entrepreneurs.

Even if you’re fortunate enough to have an amazing team of writers, AI can still help boost your rankings in less time. Here are a few steps to get started:

  1. Use AI-powered tools like SEMRush to complete a competitive analysis and find keyword gaps and opportunities where you can rank easily.

  2. Enlist a service like Surfer SEO to generate an article outline, including the optimal word count, and pinpoint the exact primary and semantically related keywords to incorporate.

  3. Draft your content with help from Jasper, which can reduce your writing time by 80%. Jasper helps to ensure your content is readable and relevant. If it’s good enough for the talented team at Sports Illustrated, imagine what it can do for your content creation.

These are just three examples of tools you can use to boost your SEO efforts. You can even pick one tool to handle everything from research to outlining to final copy, further streamlining your content creation process.

The key thing to remember: AI shouldn’t be your sole tool for content creation. Human oversight and creativity add the sizzle to the steak that AI serves up. 🥩 Yum!

The ROI of AI Copywriting: How Much Can You Save on Content Creation?

Many SMBs view content creation as a necessary evil. Yet content is also at the core of every marketing campaign. From social media posts and landing pages to blog posts and white papers, words play a huge role in generating leads and boosting conversions.

Good copywriters do not come cheap. But they pay for themselves with a dramatic ROI.

Let’s look at these figures from a variety of campaigns for business-to-business software-as-a-service providers, a field where copywriters tend to make bank:

Google Adwords: Copywriter paid $5,000 for the campaign | ROI: 500%

Paid social: Copywriter paid $3,000 | ROI: 750%

Email campaign: Copywriter paid $10,000 | ROI: 436%

If you remember from earlier in this newsletter, AI content was shown to perform equally as well as human writers for short-form, persuasive copy — things like social media posts and ad campaigns.

High-quality content creation software tends to run around $50 per month. You’ll still want a human copywriter to write the prompts, oversee the process, fact-check and edit the final copy. But you may be able to hire an entry-level professional instead of one commanding five figures for a single campaign. You’ve effectively doubled your ROI.

If you use in-house copywriters, you’ve freed them up to be their most creative; they can leverage AI to help generate high-quality content in half the time (or less). You still need human writers to suss out the stories behind your brand and humanize your content. But you can boost your ROI into four-figure percentages while optimizing your time.

Perfect Your Copy with AI Prompts for Sharper Writing and Better Headlines

Time and again as writers here at Top AI Tools, we turn to our favorite AI services — whether that’s Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT — for help.

Is the perfect word on the tip of your tongue and not making it down to your fingers so you can type it? Need some better headline options? Not sure you’re getting the voice perfect on a long-form landing page?

1. Get AI help with word choice

Did you ever need a specific word, but can’t pinpoint what it is? Give it your best try and ask your favorite Gen AI for help.

Enter the sentence and then ask, “What would be a better word to replace [word] in this sentence?” For better results, you can also give your Gen AI specific details as to the point you want to make, nuanced meanings you want to convey, or additional context.

2. Enlist AI’s help with headline options

Post an article in ChatGPT (or the Gen AI assistant of your choice) and ask it for five to 10 headline suggestions.

For best results, you can enter parameters such as “Generate headline suggestions of no more than nine words,” or provide sample headlines that you like and ask your AI assistant to mimic that voice.

3. Edit for grammar and/or clarity

You can enter an entire article in ChatGPT and ask it to edit for grammar and clarity. The prompt: “I’m going to paste an article here. Please edit it for grammar and clarity while retaining the original voice.”

TOOLS & RESOURCES

What we’re exploring…

Since Top AI Tools launched nearly a year ago (Happy Anniversary to us 🎉🎉🎉), we have seen our share of AI-generated content, edited pages of AI-generated content, and learned the delicate balance between using AI for copywriting and to inspire us to be better copywriters.

Those who are new to deploying AI in many aspects of their business, including content creation, often make mistakes. These mistakes can cost you in Google rankings, trust and credibility, time, and money.

Here are some of the common AI copywriting pitfalls and how to avoid them:

Sounding too much like AI. You can have ChatGPT or Gemini spit out articles all day long. But AI writing sometimes falls into certain patterns, like using cliches or overusing specific phrases, that creates lackluster content. Essentially, content generated by AI often sounds inauthentic, especially to sophisticated readers.

The solution: Infuse your voice, creativity, and storytelling talents into every article. Never publish an AI-generated article verbatim. To some degree, you can train Gen AI to write in your brand’s voice over time. But, even with training, AI-generated content pales in comparison to what a high-quality human copywriter can create.

Plagiarism. Large language models like ChatGPT draw from a vast database of content across the internet. But that means it may take sentences or paragraphs verbatim from the sites it accessed.

The solution: One way to check for plagiarism is to post snippets of text into Google and see if they pop up in published content. You can also use a plagiarism-checking tool, like the one embedded in Grammarly.

Inaccuracies and biases. AI has been prone to “hallucinations,” where it makes up facts. It’s getting better, but it’s not perfect yet. (Even human copywriters aren’t perfect in this regard!) AI may also take statements out of context, which can lead it to strange conclusions or assertions. Even worse, AI can inherit and perpetuate biases from its training data. If these sneak into your work, it could reflect poorly on your brand.

The solution: Fact-check everything. (Just as you should be doing with a human copywriter.) Keep an eye out for unintentional biases. If you’re writing about topics that affect marginalized people, consider hiring a sensitivity reader to ensure micro-aggressions haven’t slipped into your text.

What we’re reading…

We love learning how companies use AI to boost productivity and improve results.

But we’re often surprised by how long AI has been working behind the scenes to help savvy marketers boost results. A lot of people think AI only hit the mainstream when ChatGPT launched – and that’s not the case!

We’ve been diving deep into these case studies spotlighting how eBay has been using AI-powered copywriting tools like Phrasee — now known as Jacquard — to ramp up their email marketing campaigns.

That may not seem surprising — after all, the auction site has been an industry disruptor in many ways. What shocked us is that they’ve been using AI in their campaigns since 2016. The results shared in these case studies provide a compelling reason for every brand today to implement AI for email marketing, paid social, push messages, and more.

By using AI to generate personalized, brand-aligned subject lines, headlines, and email messaging, so that every email sounds like it’s written specifically for that customer, eBay:

  • Boosted open rates by 700,000 📨

  • Increased click-through rates by more than 40% 📲

In an article published by the Marketing Artificial Intelligence Institute, eBay Associate Creative Director Molly Prosser said, “The eye-opening component [this tool] has brought to me and my team is about human bias… That unbelievable capability that we have as humans to think that we’ll intrinsically know what language will resonate with another human, which just isn’t true.”

By using AI for A/B testing, eBay copywriters can spend more time brainstorming campaigns and working on tasks that require human creativity, making their jobs more relevant, productive — and fun.

We love this video from AI influencer Brie Kirbyson. She shares her six best tips for using ChatGPT for any sort of writing. We appreciated her honesty within the first minute of the video: “When I first tried ChatGPT I thought it was completely overhyped. But as it turns out, I was just really bad at prompt writing.”

ChatGPT Writing Secrets

She goes on to share six tips that helped her improve her prompt-writing skills to create more effective content efficiently using ChatGPT… and they can help you, too.

  1. Good content creation starts with a clear, structured prompt.

  2. Specify the tone, style, and audience so ChatGPT can write in the voice you want.

  3. Assign ChatGPT a role (i.e., financial advisor, lawyer, editor) to deliver better responses.

  4. Use ChatGPT to spark ideas and inspiration to defeat writer’s block without massive amounts of coffee.

  5. Refine prompts for better results.

  6. Rely on a prompt “cheat sheet” for a shortcut to better results… or check out Top AI Tools’ ChatGPT prompts for any purpose.
